The Four Great Prayers
Nicholas Ayo
Four great prayers are central to Catholic worship. Now you can embark on a remarkable spiritual journey exploring them with the author of The Creed as Symbol, The Lord's Prayer, The Hail Mary: A Verbal Icon, and Gloria Patri: The History and Theology of the Lesser Doxology. In this profound lecture series, you will come to understand these great prayers as windows into Catholic theology and spirituality. As Fr. Ayo presents the Apostle’s Creed in its fullness, you’ll learn how it first served as a baptismal creed and a profound summary and distillation of what Jesus of Nazareth meant for Christians. Next, you’ll examine the three other prayers that rank with the Creed as the most known and prayed of all Christian prayers. You’ll revisit the words of Jesus in The Lord's Prayer and examine the Hail Mary, the Ave Maria of song and tradition, a prayer particularly loved by Catholics. Finally, you’ll explore the significance of the most recognized and known doxological prayer found in Christian prayer, the Gloria Patri. Fr. Ayo will explain the four modalities of prayer—as praise, forgiveness, thanksgiving, and petition—as well as the best ways to use them. Father Ayo’s unique approach, incorporating both scholarship and poetry, will educate and inspire you. Join his classroom from your home or car today.
