• Recorded at Rudy Van Gelder Studios in New Jersey in June 1961, pianist Mal Waldron's The Quest was released by the New Jazz label in July 1962. It features Eric Dolphy (alto sax, clarinet), Booker Ervin (tenor sax), Ron Carter (cello), Joe Benjamin (double bass), and Charlie Persip (drums). Waldron composed all seven cuts that fall somewhere between hard-bop and avant-garde, including the jazz standard 'Fire Waltz'.

• All-analog mastering from the original tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio

• Pressed on 180-gram vinyl at RTI

• Single tip-on jacket with obi spine wrap.

ORIGINAL JAZZ CLASSICS SERIES

Since its inception in 1982, Fantasy's Original Jazz Classics® ('OJC' series has been a tremendously successful extensive line of collectible reissues. Its premise is simple: to present memorable jazz albums-with the original covers and notes - which have been unavailable for years. The vaults of the Fantasy-affiliated labels —Fantasy, Prestige, Galaxy, Milestone, Riverside, Debut, Contemporary, Jazzland, and Pablo — hold some of the most important jazz albums ever recorded. Drawing on this vast wealth of material, Original Jazz Classics® has grown to over 850 titles. 2023 sees the continuation of this perennial jazz series on LP through the release of several of the most coveted long out-of-print albums in this vast collection.
