After her retirement, Jan McArdle was looking forward to the idyllic cottage life in rural Wales with her partner, Stu. Unbeknown to her, after a few months of settling down, a catastrophic event would change her life forever. "As summer slipped into autumn, we started to think about Christmas. My daughter, her son and my youngest son were going to spend Christmas with us, and for the New Year my eldest brother and his wife were going to be our house guests." That New Year would be one that Jan would never forget? Learning from other people's experiences is one thing, but learning from one's own can be another matter. Would we be able to cope with the ordeals described in this book as well as Jan learnt how to?
