Chekhov was a Russian writer of short stories and plays. Chekhov was a doctor during most of his life. He was said to say, "Medicine is my lawful wife and literature is my mistress". Other stories included besides the title story are: A Doctor's Visit, An Upheaval, Ionitch, The Head of the Family, The Black Monk, Volodya, An Anonymous Story, and The Husband.
