Diabetic Children and Celiac Disease: Seroprevalence of Celiac Disease Among Type 1 Sudanese Diabetic Children

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder which has been linked to nutritional malabsorption. it occurs in children as well as adults who are susceptible when they eat gluten which is a protein, A gluten-free diet is the only reliable defense against this condition, which can arise as early as in infancy. The Celiac Disease Foundation can offer assistance with information and treatment. Celiac disease is not a serious disorder when diagnosed early and removed gluten from the diet, but otherwise it has a serious consequences especially with type 1 diabetes. Children may be presented showing stunted growth (which can be permanent) if not treated and can increase risk of infection, malignancy, osteoporosis and neurological disorders. Serological testing for celiac disease in patients with type 1 diabetes with early diagnosis, may reduce this risk by allowing patients to be diagnosed in a pre-symptomatic state.
