The essence of the spirituality of the French mystic, Elisabeth Leseur, was, as she herself put it, to be 'Christian to the core'. Surrounded by an anti-Christian, anti-Catholic milieu and an unbelieving husband, she quietly followed her resolve, living a life of prayer, an active apostolate among the poor of Paris, and suffering for the love for Jesus Christ, underpinned by an infectious joy and love of life.



There was a deep bond of mutual love between Elisabeth and her husband, Félix, but it was only after Elisabeth's death that he found her 'secret diary' and other writings that spoke of the prayers and the sufferings that she had daily offered for him, and the depth of her spiritual life.
