Matt Kahler has led a largely comfortable life as a financial planner in Los Angeles. But after a swanky Malibu party goes awry he decides to abandon his conventional life and hike to his old family home in Oklahoma. Matt's pilgrimage is fraught with physical peril but it evolves into a voyage of self-discovery and spiritual awakening as he journeys across the American Southwest. Trekking through Arizona, New Mexico, and the Texas panhandle, Matt has time to reflect on his family and his past but he is far from alone. A variety of companions become temporary fellow pilgrims along the way. Despite the hardships and misadventures Matt somehow manages to arrive on the front porch of his old family home on Christmas Eve. He has come a long way but will he be able to come to terms with his troubled past, open the front door, and more forward into the future?
