He is raised not only by his Father who wants him to be prepared to lead his armies by being trained to be a knight, but with the influence of his mother who also wants him to be a gentleman with training in the Bible, latin, and mathmatics. He is bethrothed in marriage to Katherine a beautiful and stubborn daughter of Ireland. The irish a proud and stubborn people resent the Kingdom of King George invading and forcing them to be under his rule. They want to be free to rule themselves and practice their religion as they have for generations not pay taxes to a foreign kingdom. The Irish will go to war fighting under the banner of King George and being led by his youngest son Adam who soon realizes the realities of war and the bloody mess it truly is. As he soon is to take over the nation of ireland he will have to contend with his stubborn young beautiful wife and the Irish people.
