Sir Joseph Hooker (1817ââ¬â1911) was one of the greatest British botanists and explorers of the nineteenth century. His journey to Northern India, the Himalayas, Nepal and Tibet was undertaken between 1847 and 1851 to collect some 7,000 specimens for the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew.
